As of Monday, December 29, 2014, volunteers working to support Josephine Community Libraries have raised $159,000, surpassing their goal to reach $150,000 by the end of the year.
“The outpouring of support is a tangible demonstration of our community’s dedication to its libraries,” said Executive Director Kate Lasky. “All additional funds received will go towards providing library services next year.”
As a nonprofit nongovernmental organization, Josephine Community Libraries receives no regular funding from taxes, and the libraries will have to continue fundraising throughout 2015 to maintain services for all residents of Josephine County.
Under Oregon law, library cards must remain free in order to receive grant support from state and federal agencies. Josephine Community Libraries (JCLI) currently receives one third of its overall revenue from grants.
The JCLI fall fundraising drive is sponsored by Edward Jones, Hellgate Community Foundation, and Southern Oregon Sanitation.
