Early literacy themed book bags available for checkout

In support of countywide efforts toward early literacy and school readiness, Josephine Community Libraries and Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD) Early Childhood Services are lending early literacy thematic bags containing specially selected books for child care centers and preschools.

Each educational bag follows a general theme, such as feelings, dinosaurs, or gardening. Reading guides and activity outlines accompany each bag. More than 30 thematic bags are available for easy checkout and return through the public library system.

Bags may be checked out at the Grants Pass branch library, placed on hold for delivery to another library branch, or delivered directly to child care centers. They may be kept for the usual 28-day borrowing period.

Bag offerings can be viewed by searching the online catalog using the term “book bags” searching by subject. The full list of book bag topics will appear. Place the selected book bag on hold with a library card account number, or arrange delivery with Alec Chunn at SOESD, 541-956-2059.
