The year in review

January 10, 2020 in

If there’s one word to describe 2019, it would be fulfilling.
Here’s a smattering of awesomeness from the past year!
Book and materials

  • Since the passing of the library district, the library has doubled its open hours between all four branches in Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek, and patrons are loving it!
  • In 2019, we added more new books, audiobooks, and DVDs than ever before —15 percent of the items in the library’s physical collection were added last year.
  • With the improved budget, the library now offers New York Times Bestsellers as soon as they’re published.
  • In 2019, we made it easier to find something to read—cover images and NoveList book and author suggestions were added to the catalog. And, all books and materials were re-shelved and shifted so browsing the stacks is now easier for everyone!
  • Outdated and damaged library materials made their way into the hands of community members during The Great Book Grab.

Access for all

  • The library foundation provided $25,000 in library card scholarship to families living outside the library district boundary, ensuring no one was turned away from access to the library.
  • The library is now fine-free for everyone!

Programs and services

  • Volunteer retention has remained a roaring 90 percent. Thank you volunteers!
  • In 2019, the new Tech Tips and Welcome to Computers programs offered better digital skills training.
  • Expanding the Library of Things resulted in a drastic increase in the number of items checked out.

Facilities and building improvements

  • With the help of the library foundation, the Young Adult room at the Grants Pass branch was renovated, making it a more inviting space for teens.
  • Looking forward to 2020, the library foundation is gearing up to fund more building improvements in the future!

When we reflect on all the library has accomplished last year, we are inspired to enter 2020—a new decade of library service in Josephine County. Click here to read the full 2018-19 annual report.
