CLOSED call for artists: Illinois Valley children’s library

Josephine Community Libraries, Inc. (JCLI) is seeking fine artwork for its children’s library in Illinois Valley that communicates a love of reading, appreciation for books, and connection with nature through artistic multimedia materials and concept content.

Qualifications, based on examples of previous work, are sought from artists interested in the commission of artwork for the children’s library “First Chapters” art project for the Illinois Valley branch of Josephine Community Libraries. This art project is funded by a grant from the Josephine County Cultural Coalition.

about the project

Walls in the Illinois Valley children’s library for which original artwork will be commissioned.

In early 2017, with the support of community donors and grants, Josephine Community Libraries renovated the Illinois Valley children’s library, modernizing the 1960s-style children’s area and creating an exploratory, flexible, multimedia space that provides an effective environment for a variety of children’s literacy programs conducive to different age groups.

The newly renovated children’s library space communicates to residents that the community is invested in early literacy and lifelong learning. The integration of artwork within the children’s library is intended to enhance the patrons’ experience and make the space more colorful, celebrating the Illinois Valley community’s love of reading, investment in its youth, and connection with nature.
