Josephine Community Library District Seeks New Board Member

Grants Pass, January 27, 2024— The Josephine Community Library District is seeking a dedicated individual to fill an open position on its board of directors. Position 2 is currently held by founding board member Laurel Samson, who has announced her decision to step down. The library is scheduled to appoint her replacement during its February board meeting.

The appointed board member will serve the remainder of the term through June 30, 2025. Applicants must reside within the library district boundary. Applications are due by Saturday, February 8, at 4 pm. Applications should be dropped off at the Grants Pass branch or emailed to board@josephinelibrary.org. Community members passionate about the library’s mission are encouraged to apply for the open board position. Laurel Samson has been an integral part of the library district since its inception in 2017. Her leadership and expertise have greatly contributed to the success and growth of the district. In addition to serving two terms with the library district, Laurel also served as a board member for the nonprofit Josephine Community Libraries, Inc., from 2012 to 2017.

With a rich history of service to the community, Laurel has leveraged her extensive skills as a former city manager to support the library and other organizations. Laurel spent 28 years working for the City of Grants Pass, where she served in various roles, including community development director, assistant city manager, and finally, city manager before retiring in 2012.

Reflecting on her years of service, Laurel shared, “It has been an honor to serve this community and to support our library district. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident in the future of this vital community resource.”

As Laurel steps down, the Josephine Community Library District expresses its heartfelt gratitude for her many years of service and dedication to the library and the community.
