Library Hosts Bilingual Storytime Series for Día de los Niños

Grants Pass, April 18, 2025 — In honor of Día de los Niños/Children’s Day, Josephine Community Library invites families to a week-long celebration of multilingual storytelling and early literacy. From April 24 through April 30, the library will host a series of bilingual storytimes across its four branches, celebrating the joy of reading in many languages and formats.

Each bilingual storytime will feature a story read in English and a second language by local volunteers and community partners, followed by a culturally inspired craft. This year’s featured languages include:

  • Spanish – Thursday, April 24, 10:30–11:30 am at the Grants Pass branch
  • Japanese – Friday, April 25, 11:00 am–12:00 pm at the Williams branch
  • American Sign Language (ASL) – Saturday, April 26, 11:00 am–12:00 pm at the Illinois Valley branch
  • Sensory Storytime – Wednesday, April 30, 11:00–11:30 am at the Grants Pass branch
    (This session is not bilingual and is designed for children with autism and sensory processing needs. Space is limited; registration is required.)

Sensory Storytime is designed specifically for children with autism and other sensory processing needs. This session is not bilingual and includes movement, interactive books, and sensory play. “Reading and language are at the heart of learning,” said Library Director Kate Lasky. “This program celebrates the joy of reading in many languages and encourages families to share books and stories together.”

Participants in all sessions will receive a free book and themed giveaways provided by Bridging Communities and is supported by the Autism Society of Oregon, while supplies last.
