Library hosts countywide celebration for Dolly Parton’s birthday

Grants Pass, January 16, 2026 — Josephine Community Library invites children and families to attend Dolly’s Imagination Celebration, a countywide birthday party honoring singer, songwriter, and literacy champion Dolly Parton. The celebration will take place on Saturday, January 24, from 12–2 pm at all Josephine Community Library branches in Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek.

“Dolly Parton has inspired generations through her music, storytelling, and dedication to helping children develop a love of reading with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library,” said Josephine Community Library Director Kate Lasky. “This celebration is a joyful way for families to come together, spark creativity, and share the magic of reading.”

The event will feature storytime, hands-on crafts, a special reading challenge with raffle prizes, and treats for attendees of all ages. Special book giveaways will be available while supplies last thanks to funding from the Greater Grants Pass Rotary Club.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free books to children every month from birth to age five in participating communities. Through this program, every child under the age of five in Josephine County is qualified to receive a book by mail, at no cost to their families, every month until their fifth birthday. Funding for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is made possible by the Grants Pass Rotary Club and the State of Oregon, this program has been available to local children ages five and younger since 2018. PO Boxes are not valid for this program.

As of January 2026, nearly 6,100 children ages five and younger have received free, age-appropriate books mailed directly to them each month totaling about 182,000 books since the launch of the program in 2018.

Dolly’s Imagination Celebration is free and open to the public. A library card is not needed to participate.
