The Josephine Community Libraries Expanding Opportunities Program is leveraging libraries to bridge the digital divide in Josephine County. The program’s goal is to increase information literacy in Josephine County. The program provides up-to-date and relevant technology resources, outreach, and training to meet the needs of Josephine County citizens looking to develop their prospects and improve their lives in the areas of education, employability, and entrepreneurship.
At the heart of the Expanding Opportunities Program are free community presentations and workshops focused on how to access and utilize library resources, specifically the new digital library materials. Other free workshops are offered on topics related to education, employability, and entrepreneurship.
Josephine Community Libraries has established partnerships and worked with other community participants in each of these three areas to promote awareness and use of modern library resources.
Partnering in the Expanding Opportunities Program in its first year (2013-14) were Grants Pass School District 7, The Job Council, and Rogue Community College (RCC) Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Partners in the second year (2014-15) are Three Rivers School District and Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD). The third year partner (2015-16) is the Department of Human Services (DHS).
