The Friends of the Library are library support organizations whose purpose is to raise money and assist operations of the individual library branch. A separate Friends organization supports each branch of Josephine Community Libraries, Inc. (JCLI). The Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek Friends of the Library maintain a Friends bookstore at their library branches. All four organizations run book sales or other fundraisers throughout the year.
Grants Pass Friends of the Library
The Grants Pass Friends of the Library (GPOL) is a nonprofit organization which funds programs and improvements at the Grants Pass branch of Josephine Community Libraries (JCLI).
The work of Grants Pass Friends of the Library
In 2012, the Grants Pass Friends of the Library (GPFOL) contributed more than $9,900 to the Grants Pass branch of Josephine Community Libraries for the purchase and funding of the following:
- Patron book requests and children’s items
- Programs such as the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, First Steps Early Readers, Young Master Gardeners, and the Teddy Bear Picnic
- Library participation in the AAUW Frog O’Faire Children’s Festival
- New interior blue signage
- Display cases and book cases
- Magazine subscriptions
The difference between GPFOL membership and JCLI donors
There IS a difference between being a GPFOL member and being a JCLI donor. Both are very important. GPFOL operates as a nonprofit organization which funds programs and improvements at the Grants Pass library which the JCLI budget cannot fund. Your annual FOL membership dues, coupled with GPFOL book store (in the Ben Bones Room) and book sales, and revenue from the annual Holiday Bazaar, all go towards the purchase of Library “wish list items.”
GPFOL membership and privileges
GPFOL membership forms are available in the Friends Bookstore at the Grants Pass library. Deposit the completed form, along with the dues payment ($5/person or $8/family), into the bookstore’s payment box. Grants Pass FOL members get “early bird” shopping privileges at all Grants Pass FOL book sales. Check the calendar for the date of the next GPFOL book sale.
