As part of the formation of Josephine Community Library District, a newly formed public special library district serving 39,000 residents in the areas of Grants Pass, Williams, Wolf Creek, and Illinois Valley, the position of Public Services Director is currently open for applications and will remain open until 5 pm on Monday, October 23.


On May 16, 2017, voters passed Measure 17-79 to form a library district in the noncontiguous areas surrounding the branch libraries in Grants Pass, Williams, Wolf Creek, and Illinois Valley. The measure passed by 53 percent of the vote at a rate of 39 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value for owners within the boundaries of the library district. This tax started being assessed July 2017, and the library district will start to receive tax receipts in November 2017.

about the position

Josephine Community Library District seeks a dynamic leader to serve as the Public Services Director who will manage all programs and events for the library system, and provide oversight of library circulation, ensuring excellent customer service while seeking to meet current needs of library patrons and anticipate future directions of the community. The Public Services Director works closely with the Library Director to help maintain a team-oriented climate that will attract, keep, inspire, and motivate quality staff and volunteers and secure the trust and confidence of the Board of Directors. The Public Services Director oversees three Branch Managers, the Children’s Librarian, Reference Librarian, and Volunteer Coordinator with annual budgets, administrative matters, volunteer teams, training, planning, and troubleshooting. This position also manages the Grants Pass branch, responding to patron concerns, supervising circulation volunteers, and refreshing display areas.

The Public Services Director is a full-time position. The wage range is $20 to $26 per hour, depending on experience. Health and retirement benefits are offered. The expected start date is October 30. Click to see the Public Services Director Job Description (pdf).
