June 22nd–August 3rd
Families are invited to join “A Universe of Stories,” the free Summer Reading Program at any of the four branches in Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek from June 22 through August 3.
- Children age birth through 12 years old can enjoy creative crafts, fun activities, and earn prizes by participating in the Summer Reading Program.
- Teens can earn a weekly raffle ticket for each book read, and the chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Oregon Books and Games.
- Parents who sign their children up for the Summer Reading Program will be entered to win a $100 gift card to Fred Meyer drawn at the end of the program.
A current library card is not required to participate in the Summer Reading Program. All children living in Josephine County age four and older are eligible for a free library card whether or not they live within the library district boundary.
how it works
During the six-week program the library will offer fun and engaging space-themed crafts and activities at all four branches.
The summer reading booklet is the official guide to the Summer Reading Program. Each child will get a booklet upon sign-up at any of the four library branches in Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, or Wolf Creek. It includes important information about the weekly themes, schedule of crafts and activities, reading logs, and activities for children to do at home.
Participants have a chance to earn prizes by reading or being read to and by completing activities throughout the program.
The program is completely free and offered during regular library hours at all four branches.
Join us for some extra summer fun during these Summer Reading Program special events.

Summer reading programs have long been acknowledged by researchers and the general public as key to the long-term academic success of students. Numerous studies have shown that reading over the summer months prevents “summer slide,” which can have a cumulative effect. Studies show that by the end of 6th grade, children who lose reading skills over the summers are two years behind their classmates.
