What is a Storybook Walk?

A Storybook Walk is an outdoor reading and walking experience of a children’s book or poem with the “pages” of the book placed in different areas along a walking path.  Families are to take a stroll and read the featured story at their own pace.

2024 featured stories

The 2024 Pop-Up Storybook Walk features a new bilingual story called Spanish Tortilla/La Tortilla de Papas by Sandra Siemens. In Spanish Tortilla, Carmen goes to the store to buy eggs, but on the way, she discovers a world of simple beautiful things and forgets about the eggs. She’ll return home time and time again with all sorts of foods and flowers… but not the eggs.

Other featured stories during the 2024 Storybook Walk include:

  • I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth
  • Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson
  • an adapted version of the fable Stone Soup
