Library hosts Oregon-native Rick Bartow traveling art exhibit
Josephine Community Library is proud to host the “From the Heart: Author Drawings by Rick Bartow” traveling exhibit from Tuesday, September 11, 2019 through the end of October at the Grants Pass branch.
In the “From the Heart” traveling exhibit, Newport, Oregon native and internationally recognized artist Rick Bartow captured the faces of authors like Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, and John Steinbeck.
In 2000, Rick Bartow donated a portfolio of seventeen small portrait drawings to the Newport Public Library where he was an active volunteer. With the exception of a few works that were put on display in the early 2000s, the other drawings remained securely stowed away from public view until he passed away in 2016.
The series includes mixed media on rice paper and repurposed papers, often letters and envelopes from friends. Bartow uses watercolor with pencil and pastel markings in this collection.
