Four Way Community Foundation funds repairs at Illinois Valley library

June 19, 2020 in

Thanks to a grant from The Four Way Community Foundation, Josephine Community Library was able to repair the parking lot at the Illinois Valley branch.

The $8,900 grant allowed the library to repave the parking lot for safety and access, including striping and placement of bumpers and a bike rack, just in time to begin offering curbside pick-up.

With the libraries closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the library had the opportunity to use the unprecedented downtime to complete the project without disrupting Illinois Valley community members who use the library. Doing the work now also kept specific library staff members and paving contractors employed and continuing to do business during this severely challenging time for the Josephine County economy.

Capital improvement and deferred maintenance repairs of the library buildings are not supported by the annual operating budget of the library system. Funds for these projects come from foundations, grants, and donations.

Curbside pick-up is offered at all four branches in Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek from noon to 4 pm every Saturday and Sunday. To order books for curbside pick-up, patrons can use their online account or call their preferred branch to request up to six items per library card. Due to high volume and limited staff, there will be a delay in service after requests are placed.
