Community invited to library district grand opening

Chamber of Commerce celebrates new library district with ribbon cutting

The community is invited to celebrate the newly formed permanent library district with a grand opening on Wednesday, January 24 at 10 a.m. at the Grants Pass branch of Josephine Community Library District (JCLD).
“The volunteers are excited to start this new chapter of the library’s story,” said JCLD Library Director Kate Lasky. “Thank you to the community for keeping the library open with stable funding.”
The Josephine County/Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will kick off the morning with a special ribbon cutting ceremony and attendees will hear from library leaders. Refreshments will be provided.
Open house to follow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

After libraries in Josephine County closed in May 2007, committed community members formed Josephine Community Libraries, Inc., a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring long-term library services for every county resident. By December 2009, JCLI had reopened all four shuttered locations. In May 2017, citizens placed a measure on the ballot to permanently fund the libraries, which passed by 53 percent of the vote. For the past 10 years, the libraries were supported by generous donations and the heroic contributions of more than 360 volunteers annually.
