Library holds haiku contest online

Josephine Community Library will host a haiku poetry-writing contest during the temporary closure of the Grants Pass branch from December 14–26 on social media.
Participants can enter for a chance to win a gift basket valued at $200 in the teen division or the adult division. Each gift basket contains items from local businesses and is sponsored by the Josephine County Cultural Coalition. Everyone who enters will have a chance to win one of two raffle prizes.
To participate in the haiku contest, participants can visit the library Facebook or Instagram pages to share an original haiku by posting it as a comment, post to page, or in a message. Haikus must be inspired by the New Year with a “2020” theme. Contestants should include which division they would like to enter, teen or adult. The library will post each haiku on its social media platforms and draw a winner at random for each division on Monday, December 30.
“We hope that library patrons continue to engage with us online during the temporary closure,” said Communications Coordinator Brandace Rojo. “This contest is a great way to introduce the community to all of the online services that the library has to offer.”
During the temporary closure of the Grants Pass branch, library patrons can use the online library by visiting josephinelibrary.org to check out over 35,000 e-books, databases, and more. Patrons are also encouraged to visit one of the branches in Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek while the Grants Pass branch is temporarily unavailable.
