Josephine Community Library District invites the public to preview concept drawings for new and remodeled library buildings at 5:30 pm on Thursday, January 31 in the main reading room of the Grants Pass branch.
Community members participated in focus groups last spring to address what’s working in our libraries, what isn’t, and what improvements they’d like to see.
“Based on these conversations, library leaders agreed on their long-term facilities goals,” said Library Director Kate Lasky. “These goals include replacing the Grants Pass and Williams libraries, remodeling the Illinois Valley branch, and updating the Wolf Creek building.”
Josephine County Library Foundation hired the Hacker architectural firm, which has worked since summer to assess the existing buildings and to develop preliminary ideas for improvements. The result is the Library Facilities Master Plan, which will be presented at the January 31 meeting.
The completion of the Facilities Master Plan marks the end of Phase 2 of a six-phase building design and construction process.
“The library foundation is dedicated to investing in new and improved facilities,” said Teresa Stover, the foundation’s interim executive director. “The next step is for the library to conduct a feasibility study and then launch a capital campaign to raise funds for the new and remodeled buildings,” Stover said.
