Library partners with national history institution to offer youth programs
Youth from grades 3–12 and their families are invited to participate in two programs in the “We the People: Revisiting the Founding Era” program series sponsored by a grant from The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History taking place at the Grants Pass branch of Josephine Community Library, 200 NW C Street.
- Declaring and Exploring Independence
Saturday, February 2 from 2:30–4 p.m.
Students will create an interactive art piece inspired by the study of primary documents focused on America’s independence. - Creating a Constitution and Governing a Nation
Saturday, February 9 from 2:30–4 p.m.
Students will create a hip-hop rap performance through the study of primary documents focused on the creation of America’s government.
Through the documents of Henry Knox who became the first US Secretary of War in 1789, both youth programs will explore the people, documents, and events of the Revolutionary War with emphasis on activism, coalition-building, and the role of women.
These programs will be facilitated by two Grants Pass School District 7 teachers, Jordan Kasler from North Middle School and Breanna Holtz from South Middle School.
