The Great Escape
August 21, 2023 - September 16, 2023
Check out bags of books, sacks of stories, and volumes of volumes from the Williams library branch
Help the books escape the Williams branch of Josephine Community Library before Saturday, September 16 during The Great Escape.
Next month, thousands of pounds of books must be moved to the new Williams library branch location which sits just over a half mile away from the current location. During The Great Escape, library staff and volunteers from the Williams branch are asking the community to check out as many books as possible from the Williams branch by Saturday, September 16 to help with the move. The loan period on all items checked out from the Williams branch will be extended until Saturday, October 14.
“The Great Escape is the perfect way for the whole community to help with the Williams library branch move,” said Williams Branch Manager Amber Guient. “And, everyone gets to read more books. It’s a win-win.”
Josephine Community Library Foundation contracted with Vitus Construction, Inc., which started construction mid-July 2023. The new library, located at 158 Tetherow Road in Williams, will replace the existing Williams Library located at 20695 Williams Highway. The library foundation purchased the property last year with funds from local donations and a grant from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) via the Oregon State Legislature and Rep. Morgan. Library leaders have been working with ZCS Engineering & Architecture, Inc. for the past year designing the renovation of the 1000-square-foot building into a public library space. Construction is scheduled through August, and the grand opening and community celebration will be scheduled for late September.
