2024 Summer Reading Program

June 15th - August 10th

All ages are invited to join the annual Josephine Community Library Summer Reading Program from June 15 through August 10.

The 2024 theme is A Journey Awaits: Where books are your passport and imagination is your destination. Look for updates each week in the Sunday edition of the Grants Pass Daily Courier and Wednesday’s Country Weekly. To join the free Summer Reading Program and earn raffle tickets for prizes, participants of any age can register an account anytime beginning June 1 online or stop by a local branch.

SUMMER SLIDE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF READING DURING THE SUMMER

“Summer slide” is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of summer vacation in countries that have lengthy breaks in the school year. Younger children are prone to the most learning loss because they’re at a crucial stage in their development. Through annual public library Summer Reading Programs, children and their families maintain those skills together with fun events, reading challenges, and educational play.
